Biometrics

Biometrics comprises methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon one or more intrinsic physical or behavioral traits. Biometric characteristics can be divided in two main classes: - Physiological are related to the shape of the body. Examples include, but are not limited to fingerprint, face recognition, DNA, hand and palm geometry, iris recognition, which has largely replaced retina, and odor/scent. - Behavioral are related to the behavior of a person. Examples include, but are not limited to typing rhythm, gait, and voice. Some researchers[1] have coined the term behaviometrics for this class of biometrics.

Fingerprint recognition Systems

Fingerprint recognition or fingerprint authentication refers to the automated method of verifying a match between two human fingerprints. Fingerprints are one of many forms of biometrics used to identify an individual and verify their identity. This article touches on two major classes of algorithms (minutia and pattern) and four sensor designs (optical, ultrasonic, passive capacitance, and active capacitance).

RFID

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.

CCTV

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted, though it may employ point to point wireless links. CCTV is often used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations, and convenience stores.

PTZ Camera

The phrase PTZ Camera has two uses within the video security and surveillance products industries. First, PTZ is an acronym for Pan, Tilt, and Zoom and may refer merely to features of specific surveillance cameras. Second, PTZ Cameras may also be used to describe an entire category of cameras where a combination of sound and/or motion and/or change in heat signature may enable the camera to activate, focus and track suspected changes in the video field.

DVR

A digital video recorder (DVR) or personal video recorder (PVR) is a device that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, sd memory card or other memory medium within a device. The term includes stand-alone set-top boxes, portable media players (PMP) and recorders (PMR as camcorders that record in memory cards) and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from disk. More and more manufacturers have started to offer television sets with digital video-recording hardware and software built into the television itself

Proximity Cards

Proximity card (or Prox Card) is a generic name for contactless integrated circuit devices used for security access or payment systems. It can refer to the older 125 kHz devices or the newer 13.56 MHz contactless RFID cards, most commonly known as contactless smartcards.Modern proximity cards are covered by the ISO/IEC 14443 (Proximity Card) standard. There is also a related ISO/IEC 15693 (Vicinity Card) standard. Proximity cards are powered by resonant energy transfer and have a range of 0-3 inches in most instances. The user will usually be able to leave the card inside a wallet or purse. The price of the cards is also low, usually US$2–$5, allowing them to be used in applications such as identification cards, keycards, payment cards and public transit fare cards.

125 KHz Cards

125 KhZ technology is still the most current one used for Read-Only on-line applications such as access control or time & attendance. In this technology, how bigger the antenna, how longer is the reading distance.

HID Cards

HID cards are from Company HID Global which makes electronic identity and access cards. In addition, the company develops, manufactures and markets contactless ID components, products and services for national ID and e-passport programs, offices, supply chain management, animal tagging, financial transactions, transport and various industrial or manufacturing uses.

Mifare Cards

MIFARE is the NXP Semiconductors (a spin-off company formed out of Philips Semiconductors)-owned trademark of the reputedly most widely installed contactless smartcard, or proximity card, technology in the world with (according to the producer) over 1 billion smart card chips and 10 million reader modules sold[1]. The patented technology is owned by NXP Semiconductors, with its headquarters in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and main business sites in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and Hamburg, Germany. The MIFARE proprietary technology is based upon the ISO/IEC 14443 Type A 13.56 MHz contactless smart card standard.

UHF Cards

The UHF Card provides both long-range identification and muti-card read/write capability, The UHF card is used in applications from access control, staff identifcation to customer loyalty programs.

DesFire Cards

The MIFARE DESFire is another NXP microprocessor platform, based on a similar core as MIFARE ProX/SmartMX, with more hardware and software security features than the standard MIFARE Classic chips. It is sold already programmed with a general purpose software (the DESFire operating system) that offers a simple directory structure with files, similar to what is typically found on smart cards. DESFire cards are sold on four variants. One with Triple-DES only and 4Kbyte of storage and three with AES having storage capacity of 2, 4 and 8 KB (see DESFire EV1). The AES variants also have additional security features, i.e. CMAC. It is using a standards compliant (ISO/IEC 14443-4) protocol.[9] The card is based on a 8051 processor with Triple DES and AES crypto accelerator, making really fast transactions possible. The maximal read/write distance between card and reader is 10 cm (4 inches), but actual distance depends on the field power generated by the reader and its antenna size.

RFID Reader

An RFID reader is a device that can wirelessly communicate with tags. RFID readers can detect the presence of tags as well as send and receive data and commands from the tags. The tag and the reader must comply with the same standard in order to communicate. If a tag is based on a proprietary design, a reader must support the same communication protocol to communicate with that tag. In many cases, if proprietary tags are used, only proprietary RFID readers from the same vendor can be used.

RFID Writer

The RFID Reader/Writer (RW) is a RFID device reader and writer, with USB/COM interface. It is extremely simple to use: you will only need to approach an RFID device (card, key holder or tag) to the RFID RW to do a reading/writing.

Wiegand Reader

The Wiegand interface is a de facto wiring standard which arose from the popularity of Wiegand effect card readers in the 1980s. It is commonly used to connect a card swipe mechanism to the rest of an electronic entry system. The sensor in such a system is often a Wiegand wire based on the Wiegand effect discovered by John R. Wiegand. A Wiegand-compatible reader is normally connected to a Wiegand-compatible security panel.

UHF Antenna

An UHF RFID antenna is attached to the RFID reader and is the source that emits radio waves. For passive tags, this enables the tag’s antenna once it has entered the RF field to power up its microchip to send and receive RFID data. The type of RFID antenna determines the type of RFID field generated.
